Philippines

President Duterte aims to introduce federalism to the Philippines, effectively decentralizing governance (1). However, his recent crackdown against corruption seems to be more hype and less reality with at least seven officials having been re-hired (2)

Duterte recently sparked outrage with ill-timed comment insulting God, bad news for a President who’s nation consists of 80% Catholics (3), and lashed out at China over the disputed South China Sea (4). These recent outbursts may have led to his ratings dropping (5).

President Duterte was not entirely positively received during his recent trip to Israel (6) due to previous distasteful references to the Holocaust, promoting Israeli president to school him on a bit of history (7).

His continued “strongman” tactics make it a risky place to engage in political activities or criticize the President (8).
